새 노래 곧 우리 하나님께 올릴 찬송을 내 입에 두셨으니
많은 사람이 보고 두려워하여 여호와를 의지하리로다(시 40:3)

He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him(Ps 40:3)

2005년 부활절 즈음, 성령체험와 함께 하나님께서는 제게 놀라운 선물을 주셨습니다. 바로 새 노래를 만드는 은사였습니다. 마음속에 가사가 떠오르고 멜로디와 함께 입에서 새 찬송이 흘러나왔습니다.

“예수 그 이름 높이세. 예수 그 이름 찬양해. 예수 그 이름 뿐이네..”

이 노래는 과거에 하나님을 모르고 영적으로 심히 방황하던 저를 전적인 은혜로 구원해 주신 하나님을 만난 후, ‘예수 이름 외에는 구원을 받을 수 있는 이름이 없다’ 는 깨달음의 간증 노래였습니다.

다른 이로서는 구원을 얻을 수 없나니 천하 인간에 구원을 얻을 만한 다른 이름을 우리에게 주신 일이 없음이라..(행 4:12)
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved(Acts 4:12)

그 이후 하나님께서는 제게 계속해서 새노래를 주셨습니다. 마음속에 멜로디가 떠올랐고 멜로디로 찬양을 하다보면 가사도 주셨습니다.  그 당시는 매일 밤 찬양을 드렸는데, 마지막 찬양은 새노래로 드리곤 했습니다.

시와 찬미와 신령한 노래들로 서로 화답하며 너희의 마음으로 주께 노래하며 찬송하며(엡 5:19)
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord(Eph.5:19)

때로는 기쁨으로, 때로는 눈물로, 때로는 엎드림으로…개인 예배 가운데, 말씀 묵상 중에, 기도 중에, 찬양인도 후에…거룩하신 하나님의 임재 가운데에서 만들어진 30여곡 중 한 곡씩 여러분과 나누길 원합니다.

저의 소명이자 기쁨인 새노래 만드는 일을 저는 평생동안 멈추지 않을 것입니다. 하나님께서 제게 주신 노래들이 널리 알려지고 불려져서, 불려지는 곳마다 하나님의 은혜가 부어지고 하나님의 영광이 드러나기를 간절히 기도합니다.

BIO

Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Meena Choi, just like any other Korean girl, started taking piano lessens once she turned seven. As a teen, she learned to play the clarinet. When she was fifteen, she moved to the US to attend a boarding school in Ohio. Winning a state-wide competition, she played the clarinet in the All-State Orchestra and was featured in the local newspaper. It was around that time, that her band director discovered she had a perfect pitch, which had been bothering her to play an Bb instrument!

She soon decided to pursue music and was admitted to the Music School of Indiana University(Bloomington, IN), where she majored music performance for a year. However, since she quit pursuing music professionally, she never imagined in her wildest dream, that one day she would be writing songs and releasing them for the world to hear. Furthermore,  she had no idea they would be songs with the purpose to worship the living God she didn’t even know at that time.

In 2003, after a long desperate search for the truth, she accepted Christ as her Savior, who she believes called her to re-pursue music and use her talent for the Kingdom of God. While serving as a worship leader in Belgium and Germany, Choi has written many worship songs, 8 of which she released through her songwriting debut, “New Song Worship- Here I am” – her collaboration effort with well-known Korean Christian artists like Shu-A Jo and Gui-Hee Hwang(Markers Worship).  The original English version of the title track, “Here I am”  featuring Korean-American artist Brian Kim , is included in the album(Track 9) and later released as a single.
